Goldbacks are a novel form of currency that blends the timeless value of gold with the practicality of paper money. Goldbacks use a thin layer of 24-karat gold instead of the cotton-and-linen blend found in traditional currency. Each 10 Goldback note contains 1/100 troy ounce of pure gold.

The 10 Arizona Goldbacks – Virtus celebrates the Buffalo Soldiers of the 10th Cavalry Regiment. Their strength, courage, and service helped shape the American West. Stationed at Fort Huachuca in southern Arizona, these soldiers patrolled dangerous frontiers and protected settlers. They built vital routes and links that connected remote outposts across the desert.

Formed after the Civil War, the 10th Cavalry was composed of African American soldiers who displayed remarkable discipline and courage, even as they faced deep prejudice at home. Their reputation for bravery and professionalism became legendary, and Fort Huachuca endures as a lasting symbol of their contribution to Arizona’s history.

At the centre of the design, a resolute cavalrywoman sits tall in the saddle, holding the regimental flag aloft. Her calm strength and forward gaze embody Virtus—courage in adversity, honour in duty, and strength tempered by purpose.

Behind her, the rugged Arizona landscape evokes the vastness of the frontier, a testament to endurance and service.

The note bears the guiding principle: “Let hardship forge you — not harden you.” This Goldback honours the spirit of valour and resilience that continues to inspire generations.

These Goldbacks are produced in the United States and function as a voluntary currency. They aren’t legal tender, yet people in some US states still accept them as a form of payment.
