Goldbacks are a novel form of currency that blends the timeless value of gold with the practicality of paper money. Unlike traditional currency, which is often made from a mix of cotton and linen, Goldbacks are crafted from a thin layer of 24-karat gold, 50 Goldback contains 1/20 troy ounce of pure gold.

The Arizona 50 Goldback – Curiositas (Curiosity) celebrates the spirit of wonder and discovery that forever changed our understanding of the heavens. Set beneath the clear mountain skies of Flagstaff, it honours the moment when Clyde Tombaugh, a 24-year-old astronomer at Lowell Observatory, discovered Pluto in 1930—an achievement that expanded humanity’s view of the solar system.

At the centre stands a young woman, personifying Curiositas, gazing towards the stars with quiet awe. In one hand she holds a book embossed with Pluto’s symbol, in the other a telescope, embodying both study and exploration. Behind her, the observatory dome glows under a canopy of stars, while a vintage newspaper clipping on the table recalls the excitement that once swept the world. Above, Pluto and its moon, Charon, shimmer together—a reminder that discovery often reveals more than we expect.

The design reflects the evolving nature of knowledge. Though Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet in 2006, its discovery continues to inspire the pursuit of understanding.

Still a centre of research and stargazing today, Lowell Observatory stands as a testament to curiosity’s enduring power—anchored by the guiding truth: “Be still and trust God.”

These Goldbacks are produced in the United States, It is not legal tender, but it is recognised as a form of payment in certain states within the US.

These unique foil notes allow you to own Gold in a more convenient and affordable way. They are verified through rigorous testing by the manufacturer Valaurum and independent laboratories. The goal is for people to be able to pay for anything with the Goldback, making it an innovative form of currency.
