The story of Goldbacks is quite fascinating. It all started with a dream in early April of 2019. Jeremy Cordon, the President of Goldback Inc., dreamt of using gold as a regular currency.
Jeremy and his business partners had been trying to make gold into a more functional money for years. After his dream, he called Adam Trexler, the president of Valaurum, a company that produces high-quality bill-shaped gold called “Aurum”. They discussed the idea of creating a 1/1,000th of an ounce gold note as part of a series of multiple denominations of interchangeable notes.
In August 2019, they released the first Goldbacks, the ‘One’ and ‘Five’ of their Utah Series, with the 10, 25, and 50 denominations following by year-end. Producing the Goldback relies on 5th-generation vacuum deposition technology. Designs are printed on a sheet of polymer that is then bombarded with the precise amount of atomized gold particles in a vacuum chamber. This 24-karat gold is then sealed inside by a second protective barrier of polymer, creating a beautiful textured negative image.
Goldbacks have grown rapidly in popularity, creating a unique blend of practicality and value. Now producing currency in the jurisdictions of Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, New Hampshire and South Dakota.
